Community Engagement Professionals assist people with developmental disabilities to find a satisfying and purposeful place in their community by promoting personal growth, assisting with activities of daily living, honouring personal choices and informed decision-making.

What will you be doing?

This position develops, coordinates and evaluates individualized, group and virtual services that are designed to promote personal welfare, independence, education, self-determination, community participation and social skills as part of a person-directed support plan. Duties include:

  • Curriculum development including research, resource management and the application of specific individual needs in the design of individualized (1:1), group and virtual services
  • Coordinate service offerings for individuals across multiple community and E3 locations
  • Develop strategies for individual service access including transportation, staffing support, use of technology and community fees
  • Facilitation of service and training for individuals and liaison with individuals, family and primary care providers and/or community partners
  • Provide support in all aspects of daily living as required including personal care, hygiene, domestic skills, employment, education, home maintenance, money management, use of community businesses and resources, recreation, medical, medications and safety
  • Participate in the planning process for individuals and assist in the development of strategies to achieve the plan
  • Participate in training, visits, inspections and meetings for compliance
  • Assist individuals in understanding and exercising their rights in a safe and responsible manner
  • Participate in training, visits, inspections and meetings for compliance
  • Engage and encourage business owners/operators to include people who have different abilities in their hiring and recruitment processes, supporting both the business and the individual in all aspects of the employee relationship, onboarding, training, performance management and retention
  • Maintain accurate individual and agency records, follow reporting procedures and guidelines while complying with the current agency information, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Operate facility’s vehicles in compliance with company policies and government statutes and promote safety and wellbeing of self and others at all times

What is required to do this job?

  • Positive attitude and desire to care for vulnerable individuals to make their lives extra special
  • Human services diploma (DSW, SSW, PSW) or equivalent is a preferred qualification
  • Experience in Developmental Services or a related field
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is an asset (paid training is provided if you do not already have this)
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification is an asset (paid training is provided if you do not already have this)
  • Experience with activity development, individual and group facilitation
  • Experience with service coordination across multiple program sites and platforms
  • Current Police and Vulnerable Sector Screen
  • Ability to stand, lift, push, pull, bend, walk as needed to support individuals. Also, you will use mechanical lifts when required.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G license) and reliable transportation and insurance
